Hi A.T. Watchdogs! So my clinic in Seattle has what is called the "Benzo Protocol".  This is how it works: If you get a benzodiazepine positive UA, your dose automatically gets dropped 10%, then 5mg per week until you leave a benzodiazepine negative UA.  After 4 consecutive benzodiazepine negative UA's, you are allowed to see the clinic doctor in order to go back up to what your dose was before the "Benzo Protocol" kicked in and lowered your dose.  Before my benzo positive UA, my dose was at 75mg (my clinic only offers the cherry flavored Mallinckrodt Methadose Oral Concentrate 10 mg/mL), which held me throughout the day just fine.  Now being at 33mg, I have been using heroin (and FEELING it) to compensate for my low dose.  Just one more benzo clean UA and I can go back to 75mg. Has anybody out there ever heard of a similar type of "Benzo Protocol" aimed at lowering your dose to an uncomfortable level?  Or is my clinic the only one doing this? Thanks in advance ~ thelung

Usually they just take away your TH's and make you dose daily, but WA is a law unto itself as far as regulations go, so they di things slightly differently to the rest of the country! Where you using benzo's a lot? Did you have a script for them? If you were using them a lot, do you think that maybe when you start going back up, going above 75mg might be a good idea?

I had a script for Clonazepam 1mg #60 per month.  I don't get the script anymore though.  I think 75mg is a good dose for me, so I probably won't go any higher than that.  But 33mg is too low obviously.  If somebody is using heroin and they are on MMT, chances are their dose is too low image

Maybe throw the remaining pills out or something, so at least you won't be tempted by them. If you're still having anxiety issues, there are far better treatments than benzo's anyway. All they do is cause rebound anxiety which is basically making your problems worse, and of course they are highly addictive, so all round you're better off with other treatments such as talking therapies and no habit forming meds. Will they titrate you quickly back to the 75 once you test benzo negative?

Update: I now have the 4 benzo clean UA's in order to go back to my original dose of 75mg. I make my doctor's appointment at the clinic on Monday morning for him to bring me back up. Yay!

sapphire76:  Those pills are long gone.  I haven't had the script for 6 months or more.   Will they titrate me quickly?  I had a bad experience going up from 45mg to 100mg a few years ago...I was going up at the rate of 10mg/day and I was throwing up (I actually threw up on the bus, it was lovely image), and experienced a lot of nausea.  So this time I'll tell them to try 5mg/day or 5mg every 2 days.

Have a great day!

ETC? I want to say that their Benzo protocol was shared with AATOD at a board meeting a year or so ago......I know the MDs I worked with are all over the board re: dealing with Benzos.

I can sort of understand the benzo protocol of making people dose daily if they continue to test positive for benzo's and don't have a script, but reducing people's dose until they test negative is just crazy. It puts them at all sorts of risks, and the clinics don't seem to be considering that.

My clinic in TN hates benzos.. I've seen people that test positive for benzos the first time get they're dose cut completely in half the first day or more.. One patient got their dose cut from 130mgs to 60 mgs in one day for a positive benzo screen, and cut 10mgs every week until screens were clean. My clinic doesn't allow benzos unless prescribed by a psychiatrist.

My grandmother passed away last year and I went to the ER with a panic attack and they prescribed me 8 of the 0.25mg white xanex which are the lowest dose they have And the clinic pulled my takehomes over that for awhile..  My counselor even said it was fine to take them, but the doc said I couldn't Take them and pulled my takehomes after I had already been given the ok by my counselor.

Hey Philly, how are you doing? Did you ever manage to get optimally dosed, or are you just making do on whatever they would give you?

Yea I just made it work where I'm @.. They were wanting me to jump through too many hoops. They were wanting me to get a peak and trough every 5mgs and my takehomes would've been took until I quit going up and that wasn't possible Because I had a lot going on.

Havent been on here n awhile I've missed it. Just had a lot of stuff going on.

Yea I eventually made do with it. I could tell I wasn't where I needed to be, but they gave me the option to get a peak and trough every 5mgs and lose my takehomes until I say I'm good and I just couldn't do all that @ the time after everything they already put me through to get where I'm @ with the million peak and troughs I had to get lol..

Good to be back on here though..
